Round 39, Hour 18
Mar. 23rd, 2013 01:00 pmHour 18 is brought to you by tea and ice cream. Or hot soup, if that's more suited to your climate.
Last hour, we had people almost ready to start something! Presumably not an intergalactic war that would kill trillions and potentially threaten the very fabric of space and time. Has anyone started anything else yet?

Date: 2013-03-23 05:13 pm (UTC)Something elegant and sleek, obviously. I'd go for an egret if you wanted a bird, or a silver fox if you want a mammal. Possibly a cat, although that might be too predictable. If you want something with clever hands, a raccoon (which would be very unearthly if it were silver-grey instead of its usual colouring).

(Sorry, I once wrote a fic where Q turned Silver into a mouse, for reasons of his own, and it seemed... very right, somehow.)
I'm sure he'd be any form you want him to be! There is something a little rodent-y about him in some ways, but on the other hand he has that cat's ability to fall on his feet and not believe he can do any wrong.
(Damn, I was going to pretend I was not here and not comment till after I'd had food and felt alive again, but you went and mentioned Silver.)
ETA: *reads question properly* (I said I wasn't with it yet). Oh... if he was posing as a daemon, yeah, he might be anything. He'd definitely want to show off. Probably nothing as mundane as a cat or mouse. (Is he posing as Steel's daemon here? Or someone else's? If it was Steel, something as showy as possible for maxium annoyance of Steel while maintaining complete innocence.)

Date: 2013-03-23 05:53 pm (UTC)Or something that's still quite useful for doing things - like one of those little monkey things that are quite cute? (You can see my knowledge of mammal names is extensive). (I might be thinking of a marmoset, but I really am not sure.)
Stelmaria? I have read Pullman's trilogy, but I don't really remember all the details. (ETA: Oh, Lord A's daemon, presumably? I'm sure Silver will cope. Er. Probably.)

Date: 2013-03-23 06:00 pm (UTC)What kind of critter was Lord A's daemon? I don't remember at all.

Date: 2013-03-23 05:41 pm (UTC)Statistics about gender discrepancies in pretty much any field are hard on the digestion, though.
IIRC, the Newberys have been one of those awards which, historically, a woman only won if there weren't any men to give it to. After all, the award was being presented by men, even if it was a field with an annoying number of women in it. The only consolation is to look at the rate of change in recent years, and the change in the rate of change, and remember that this is one of the many signs of improvement.

Date: 2013-03-23 05:35 pm (UTC)Er. There could be writing of some point in my near future, I don't wish to commit myself yet.
There will be dinner fairly soon, though, I can say that much.
