The thing about my mom? Besides her being my mom sitting at the next table when I'd promised myself I'd work on this intimate asexual cuddling scene I've been putting off? o_O

I'm her editor. O_O "Curu, do you remember if I put Mary Jane's sister in my book?" (I have no idea. Haven't read the thing in three years at least, and it bears a strong resemblance to my book in the number of scenes that aren't actually typed up or written down but exist anyway in the author's chatter.)

So I've started a long and rambly "journal post" to manowrimo introducing my characters. (Some people over there expressed interest in hearing more about my story, because you don't find much asexuality fic in the world, and also because if there's one thing I've got a knack for it's letting my characters run away with me. Makes for entertaining rambles, anyway.)

With luck, the guys will take off on another tangent and drag me along, or at least let me know what goes on with Mort's career timeline and when exactly he hurt his leg! And maybe even whether the guys broke up the first time (amicably, ftr) before or after the minibus died.

(...yeah. I can always scribble worldbuilding - but for this challenge, my wordcount musing on plottery doesn't count! *g*)

*Cuddles* I can't wait to read it, and you can always use my method for skipping over the things you don't want to write while someone els is in the room. (I also have a mother who tends to eat my writing hours)

Write in abbreviated code. If you're a long-hand writer, there is an even more complicated code I tend to use that involves symbols instead of words.

It's more a question of trying to concentrate and get into the headspace (my mom doesn't even believe in asexuality, and she'd freak out if she saw me writing what would look to her like a gay sex scene... o_O... so I'm kind of tense for the "early morning pillow talk" setup that's at the top of my brain to write right now), but that is a good idea once I actually get my ideas coherent enough to start scribbling.

(I wish I knew proper shorthand for writing by hand - that would be cool. As it is, all I've got is Elvish tengwar, and reading that is a bit iffy at best.)

Is that part of your BB? It looks interesting.

I can totally relate. When I came out as asexual my mom informed me that I was a 'man-lover' and always would be. (One of the most embarrassing conversations of my life)

Luckily for me, my mother really couldn't care less what I write. If you feel comfortable IMing while she's near you, I can open up a AIM room or give you my gmail address so we can chat there. That way even if you have to shut the window down unexpectedly I can save what you've written.

How do you set up AIM chat? (I don't have any chat clients set up on my laptop atm, since I don't always haul it down to the wireless lab.)

Do you have a AIM account? If you do I can use their web-based chat. If not you'll have to register and then we can IM back and forth, but I won't be able to invite you into a room.

If you want to download the actual software it takes around 15 minutes to download and register. Then I can set up a chat-room and invite you in once you give me your username.

Okay, my family left, so I've closed out of the chat. Thanks! That was really helpful - switching media like that and working in smaller chunks made me think through the setting for the scene and figure out some more stuff I didn't know before.

I've been reading some asexual White Collar fics in the last few days. One author in particular, who tags her stories "naked" or "clothed" depending on what type of shenanigans the asexual character (Neal) is getting up to. :-)

Hee! Well, my guys are half-clothed right now (shirtless), but not really getting up to shenanigans of any sort... they just woke up, and Mort is brushing his hair (he's got long, straight black hair that he wears in a ponytail) while James lies in bed watching him. It's the kind of "intimate" scene that I absolutely love if it's written just right, but otherwise doesn't work at all... ;P

(I'm not familiar with White Collar at all. Have they got a canonically asexual character?)
