I'm still here, beating my tired brain into submission - I refuse to quit until this tag fic's finished!
(I wasted 25 minutes in beta-reading someone else's latest chapter - well, trying to make head or tail of their peculiar punctuation style - random commas are well random!)
But I did manage 100 words after I'd re-read what I'd already written...
I hear you on the random commas; I was critting a story my mother wrote during the count-down to the weekend. I have a salt shaker full of commas and I'm not afraid to use it, but she's even worse.
Congratulations on re-acquainting yourself with what you'd written and adding more to it!
The usage of commas seems to be almost everyone's weak spot - I have to spend more time sort out commas than anything else when I'm beta-reading - no matter who the author is. And don't get me started on the proper punctuation of dialogue! *head:desk*
I am blessed that the writers for whom I edit or beta tend to have their Eagle Scount badges in punctuation. I mostly end up wrangling excess hyphens, which I save up for my boss' newsletter. (He never uses hyphens when he needs them. Thus is balance maintained.)
In fact, it's a truly nice thing that the one person whose spelling and punctuation is sub-par is the one who pays me to deal with it. How's that for sweet?
Yeah. Luckily I was wearing my bomb-proof jeans, so all was well. RL catastrophically intervened around about 4pm, so only another 518 words since last I checked in - but I'm into the evening session now (sounds like snooker!)
Hmm. About 4k words of original fiction (1st draft... easy mode!) written today, and about 1k of chapter 7 of the dread cross-over, but I'm stuck in the middle of a fight scene and about to get ready to go out and watch hockey. Because as much as I love the concept of writing for 48 hours straight, I got seduced away by the puck. (And out of town visitor who really wanted a buddy to go with.) I'll be back for late-night though. Hopefully with inspiration for the rest of the fight scene. (Hockey = research??)
Unwieldy time commitments seem to be the key to me sitting down to write. I'm pleased that I had enough written today to frantically decide it was well past time to back up the hard drive.
I am hoping for a lightning bolt of inspiration on my fight scene. Or also maybe a chair will blow up and help me out.
I'll sometimes call the 'actors' into a mental rehearsal studio and tell them to figure it out and let me know what they come up with. Or else I'll watch. The problem is when they refuse to cooperate. I still remember the time that two presumed antagonists were more interested in going back into the green room and playing video games. Darn those boys.
Hello! I'm up, I'm dressed, I'm showered, and I've done grocery shopping. Currently eating breakfast lunch (um, brunch?) and reading through past posts to see what I've missed. What's this about chairs? Should I be worried?
As long as your chair does not have to be blown up, you should be fine. Although if it's a big ugly black plastic beanbag chair, better make sure it's been fed recently.
My chairs are nicely shredded by cat claws, so I doubt that blowing up will become necessary. I'll watch out for ugly black plastic beanbags . . . they're surly.
Am I still taking over posts starting at 1? Just noticed that noon hasn't been posted yet . . . want me to do that?
I saw you handled last night all by yourself -- congrats! Hope that wasn't too much of a problem. I can do this whole afternoon / evening / night if want a break.
If you're good to go straight on instead of trading off, that would be great! That's one hell of a long stint, though. Are you sure you won't want a break in there somewhere?
Don't see why it would be a problem. I'm home, I have food here for snacks and dinner, and I was planning on being on this comm that whole time anyway. Plus, I can always just put up the hourly post and let everyone talk amongst themselves while I go take care of something. So, go! Take a break! The rest of us will make sure the comm is still here when you get back. :D
In that case, many thanks! I may pop in later in the afternoon as a participant (you know! writing!), but I shall happily enjoy the break from driving until tomorrow morning.
Yes, it's nice to be a participant and not have to watch the clock for the next post. But I get to do that all day tomorrow, so I'm happy to drive for the rest of today.
This is a side-community for fic_rush, where we post our hourly posts during rounds. If you've wandered in here by accident, you'll want to go there instead.
If you're with fic_rush and have just shown up, look for most recent hourly post.
