Question!

I want to use adjective 'burly' to describe a strong, steady sort of man but I started to wonder if burly has a negative connotation?
Dictionary says 'strongly and heavily built, strong and heavy man' which sounds fine to me?

Can't think of any negative connections with 'burly' but if it concerns you, maybe 'rugged' is a good term, too?

He's dressed up in a suit, so wouldn't rugged mean he's bit messy looking, or am I thinking a wrong word?

Hmmm...rugged does mean manly and in a suit might be 'rumpled' in people's minds. Hmmm. Burly is a good one, then. Or maybe stolid? Nahhh...shows lack of emotion. Hmmmm...

This is a thinker! May have to go with your original word there! Or...Ohh! Strapping? Maybe?
