Soooooo, I've written about another five hundred words (hey, this is all first rough draft) and not one single tentacle has yet made an appearance. They're getting close though. Clothing is being removed for wound tending and... something, something, something, TENTACLES!

Noddy (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Noddy_%28character%29) is a character from a Enid Blyton book. She's one of the most beloved English writers of books for children which most of us grew up on.

Noddy's best friend is Big Ears, a Brownie.

When Noddy gets mad he "stamps his little foot and rings his little bell" (he has a bell on his hat) and the English commonly use this as a reference when talking about someone getting stupidly mad over something.

A common little kid joke in England is "Why do elephants have big ears?"
"Because Noddy wouldn't pay the ransom."
