Hello fic_rushers! I’m Jo and I’ll be your mod for the next few hours. It’s my first ever time modding, so please be gentle with me ;) I hope everyone’s now awake, fed, caffeinated, and ready to do some writing. Or editing. Or research. Or knitting. Knitting’s good too…

I’ve got a couple of different stories to be working on, so I plan to make some words on one of them this hour. Chime in with what you’re working on!

Hi, Jo! What I really need to do today is some editing, but I'll probably put if off in favor of sloppy typing for at least another half an hour. Maybe I should resolve to spend at least ten minutes editing this hour.

I don't have any cookies, but I can go for a short walk and buy myself a nice coffee drink. Resolved!

Victory! I edited for 15 minutes and now I'm going to get coffee. Not that I got very much done, but at least I stayed on task the whole time! That's pretty good by my standards. :\

I love editing... yes, I know I'm weird, I've been told that before. :D

I just feel that's when a story comes together and when I inevitably get a better idea than the one I had in the first place. I just said "better" not great.

That sounds normal to me!

I love exactly that about editing for other people, but I get stuck editing for myself-- I have a very hard time telling what is better, or what works, or any of that. I can't tell the difference between the "better" and "less good" versions when it's something I've written, though I can usually make a good guess when it's someone else.

Have you tried any of the tricks like temporarily using a very different font from the one you'd usually choose? Sometimes it can help you distance yourself a bit more from your own work.

All those tricks work to one degree or another, if I can muster up the energy to try them, but I've never been able to get enough distance to feel like I had anywhere near a reliable sense of what was working. My brain just throws up a lot of panicked self-deprecation and shuts itself down. I can muddle through, though -- it's starting that's the hardest.

I am back from the supermarket, triumphant! Well, several bottles of lovely wine were on sale so I'm going to call that a triumph.

I need to saute some garlic, ginger and onions to get started on my Chick Tikka Masala but first I'm going to try for a few words... yeah. I'll probably have more luck with the curry. :D

I'm an Englishwoman currently living in the American South. If I'm going to get a decent curry I'm going to have to make it myself. :D

Reese is currently naked and chained up and not in the fun way so I'm beginning to feel bad about how long I've left him there, poor guy. So, a few more words. *rolls up sleeves*

Thanks. :D

So, it appears the theme for today is for everyone to be tied up for good or bad reasons, whatever. I approve of this new policy. :D

I got words! I tried to switch to editing like my original plan for the day was, but no, this new story is taking all available brain space. Oh dear, I can feel the plot creeping closer, and this was supposed to be a quick drabble! o.O Yikes. :D

*throws confetti* Welcome, we're all mad here (unrelated, just letting you know :P)

I'm writing, not really with any direction but I was given a one word prompt and I'm just seeing where it goes really. Sort of like wondering around a bookshop, waiting for a story to choose you but in reverse... sort of like this comment, I started it not really with any direction and apparently this is where it went. Hopefully the fic comes out better ;)

Hi, Jo!! *Waves* Excellent! Hope you enjoy your first Modding experience (it IS addictive. :D)

Thinking about writing...which is good. Stumped on WHAT to write. Which is standard.

Oh look - coffee!!

A TON. Which is (of course) why they are being ignored in favor of potential shiny new things. *CACKLES*

Hooray, new mod!

I was going to do some writing this morning (it's morning here), but then BBC America decided to air a Classic Doctor Who episode, so I am watching that instead. Perhaps it will inspire a fic and I can retroactively call it research.

From: [identity profile] evelyn-b.livejournal.com
I'm laughing at this because "retroactive research" is my excuse for a very large number of my book purchases, among other things. Now I know what to call it!

Date: 2015-09-20 08:34 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] dbskyler.livejournal.com
Yes, from now on I'm going to claim that it's ALL retroactive research! Sounds much better than just watching television. :)

You don't need an excuse for book purchases, though! Read on!

And I just discovered that this isn't one story I'm writing but two...

I just moved all the scenes from character B's pov to a different doc.

So now the story that I started out to write is done (well, it needs some beta help) - YEY! But now I have a second story that I have no clue where the end goal is.

I got distracted by not-the-things, but now is the time to get back to the Things! *considers opening document*

Hi, Jo, hi, everyone. Still working on my WIP chapter ... which was almost ready, ähm, almost. That was before I decided to add some more sentences. Well, I guess, now I need to edit the whole thing. Oh, I love it when something like this happens. ;)

Hi Jo, nice to have you modding. I'm going to run upstairs and cut some fabric for a tank tunic, but when I'm done with that, we'll see what words may come.
