Two hours remain! Put another way, this is the last hourly post that won't be accompanied by intense dramatic music. Make the most of it while you can!
This was just going to be about spooky Time War shit. Now I somehow have an outline that addresses dualism, the nature of identity, alien brains, the relative importance of the pursuit of knowledge...if I'd spent the last month listening constantly to gardening podcasts instead of skepticism ones, this would be a very different outline.
I mean this is awesome, I really want to write this. But...maybe if I put in enough explosions, someone will still want to read it.
Sounds awesome to me! Although I agree some explosions will be useful seasoning. (Admittedly, I didn't actually get around to blowing things up myself until my fourth long-form MacGyver fic.)
Well, yes; there was a lot of plottiness and characterness going on, as well as lots of fighting and running around and a good deal of whumpage. You know how it goes.
I did get to go to town when I finally had a plot that allowed me to Blow Shit Up. I also had a tame chemist on tap, who could help me with the improvised explosives. When I sent her the list of all the chemicals that were available in the scenario (the chemicals used to process coca into cocaine), her initial response was "Are you kidding? You could practically mix any of these at random and they'd explode! This is a safety nightmare!"
Wow that's awesome. Time to cancel my plans to go into the cocaine business. And where might one purchase a tame chemist? They sound like a practical investment for any fic writer.
I thought I had responded to this one at the time!
Alas, my tame chermist is no longer on tap (she wandered off into a different fandom and then got sucked into the evil drain of Facebook). I did find out, though, that if you're willing to risk a certain level of feeling Really Silly in Public, you can get almopst any question answered by going to a place where they do a given thing and saying, "I'm researching a novel, and I don't know anything about [buying guns] [flying helicopters] [WWII pilot memorabilia], can you help me?" and they usually do. I usually offer to buy coffee, lunch, or a drink, but only occasionally get an acceptance.
I also ended up joining the little_details comm, although I failed to find anyone who could help with archaic Korean surnames. Dang. OTOH, I recently learned that some of my answeres on the minutia of BDSM have been bookmarked and shared. Sooo glad my workplace doesn't know about LJ . . .
But I was looking forward to intense, dramatic music. It motives. Staring at a blinking cursor thinking (mooning over) what I COULD be writing is a little less motivating.
This is a side-community for fic_rush, where we post our hourly posts during rounds. If you've wandered in here by accident, you'll want to go there instead.
If you're with fic_rush and have just shown up, look for most recent hourly post.

What took you so long? Were you, like, actually developing the characters, relationships, and plots instead, or some silly thing like that?
