Round 58, Hour 31
Nov. 30th, 2014 05:02 pmHi all!! It's been a while since I've modded a round so I'm a little nervous. Please bare with.
I'm Don, hi!
How has your hour been? Have you written up a storm or have your fingers stopped moving on the keyboard? Are you ready for bed or just waking up, pumping loads of coffee into your system? Drop me a comment and let me, and everyone else, know.

Date: 2014-11-30 06:07 am (UTC)Hi, Don!
Getting ready for bed soon. Lots of character discussion with a friend, but no movement on the writing front, alas. Maybe some sleep will help, though!

Date: 2014-11-30 06:15 am (UTC)Discussion is important, it helps us understand characters from different perspectives.
I'm sure sleep will help too :D

Date: 2014-11-30 06:41 am (UTC)Gahhh, yes. Or at least, garner a deeper understanding.
I hope so, lol!!

Date: 2014-11-30 06:57 am (UTC)I do have to say I am loving your Matt Smith Doctor icons. I'm re-watching his first season at the moment.

Date: 2014-11-30 07:05 am (UTC)LOL!! My icons mostly consist of him. Life long Whovian, but utterly obsessed with Eleventy. Which...thank goodness (due to the Show's nature), I can adore until the end of time. *smiles* Enjoy, enjoy! His Doctor was fun from the first jump.

Date: 2014-11-30 07:16 am (UTC)I can't say I've been a long life Whovian, I'm too young for that! I did get into it when it started back up with 9 and I'm dedicated. I'm even stitching a Tardis!
I haven't had a chance to go back through the old ones yet, I've only seen 4 and some of 5 of the older ones.

Date: 2014-11-30 07:25 am (UTC)I've been watching since I was 3 - saw most of Classic. Now watching it with my little boys. Raising 'em up right. Was right there on top of the reboot. For some reason, I let Internet tell me how to feel about Eleven before he even started. *Is ashamed of self* So I was late to the party. But BOY has it been a party! He saved my Muse, got me into Who Fandom and has been inspiring me ever since.
Whoot! You will have to share that when it is done. *Nods*
Good Doctors them...*nods*

Date: 2014-11-30 07:53 am (UTC)See that's how I was with Stargate, I was raised watching cause it started when I was 7. You are defiantly raising those boys right!
I always give them a try before I even think about writing them off. I think the thing that got me about 11, the first time, was Amy and Rory. I loved the new dynamic of the companions, who weren't in love with him. Though I love Donna for that reason too :D
I will! It may take me a while though, it is very big!
I did enjoy 4's episodes, especially with Sarah Jane, and I'm loving 5 with Tegan at the moment (must be the Aussie in me)

Date: 2014-11-30 08:01 am (UTC)*Beams* do love the 'Gate. Got hardcore Jack!love. And I've been trying to find a way to show my boys that as well. They do love their scifi. *smiles*
Well...I should have remembered: he's the DOCTOR. After watching for 30+ years, you'd think I'd remember that. No. I was bad - and therefore missed out on a whole year of anticipation and squee. Meh. I will say though, I came in just before S6 (because hubby wanted his DW, lol!) and I was immediately in love. He has toppled all the others for my favorite. Hands down. Smith now owns me, lol!
I look forward to seeing it when it is done. :D
Four was my first Doctor (reruns here in the States) and my first Love. His eppies with SJ were the best! And The-Mouth-On-Legs. *Grins* Braveheart, Tegan. Ahhh, she's awesome!
*HUGS*

Date: 2014-11-30 08:11 am (UTC)Jack/Sam were my first ship, before I even knew what a ship was, but Jack by himself always floored me. He was just so different to the other characters and whenever he showed up in Atlantis or Universe I knew it was going to be a good episode, even if he was only there for a few minutes.
You should defiantly show your boys.
Yeah, you should have remembered, but you are forgiven for forgetting. I'd say it would have to be a tie for me though. I love 11 and 10 pretty equally, though I don't enjoy the Rose/10 episodes. I never forgave Rose for not wanting 10 for the first part of the Christmas episode.
4 is awesome and I'm so glad he was my first old doctor. I think anyone else and I may have given up. And I love seeing who SJ was with the doctor after seeing her episode with 10.
*HUGS back*

Date: 2014-11-30 06:55 pm (UTC)I was never a Jack/Sam shipper. I was a Jack/Daniel shipper (sshhhh, yes - one of THOSE), but I was more for realism to character than actual shippiness. A lot of writers didn't make it...realistic to me, lol! But there were those few. Mmmm. Jack was definitely my favorite. RDA pulled him of with CLASS.
Oh, yes! My boys are being well educated in all things scifi and 80s in movies and shows. *Grins*
I'd like to think the Doctor has forgiven me. I have suffered more than enough by my own silliness. A whole year of shenanigans lost. *Hands*
I've never been a Rose/Doctor shipper, though I did enjoy their dynamic. Poor Ten. He lost so much when he lost her...
He definitely sells the Doctor. He reigned for seven years! Whew. And each episode was a treat. *Grins*

Date: 2014-11-30 08:33 am (UTC)Aw, Tegan love!!! ♥ (I love that Mouth On Legs, too!)
Four is also awesome, too, but I have such a love of Five & Tegan. Are you watching random eps you can get hold of or mostly working through them in order? (In which case, you might not have met the "mouth on legs" moment yet, and us too are being baffling!)
(I also have to say, while it's mean to mock a typo, that Please bare with made me choke with laughter while back-reading this morning, as I went 0_o contemplating the scary idea of sudden nude_rush. If you don't mind, it's a bit too chilly and early in the morning over here for that kind of thing. ;-p)

Date: 2014-11-30 08:43 am (UTC)(And I've been waiting for someone to comment on that. I realized it after I posted and decided to leave it and see if anyone was paying attention to what I had written. Though there has been no nude_rush but what you do in the privacy of your own home is up to you ;D)

Date: 2014-11-30 08:59 am (UTC)Ha, it doesn't make very much sense when you do know (it is DW), but how frustrating for you! Turlough joined in Mawdryn Undead. He was an alien in exile being punished by sent to a Public School, where the Brigadier was teaching maths, and the Black Guardian enlisted Turlough to kill the Doctor in return for his freedom (but he's a rubbish assassin, as you'll have noticed). THere were also two time zones, aliens with spaghetti on their heads, and two Brigadiers, but you know how it is.
I'm relieved to hear that we have avoided nude_rush! (And never fear I am safely wrapped up - it's nearly winter here, thanks.)

Date: 2014-11-30 09:09 am (UTC)Half the fun of watching is realizing how bad special effects were. I watched the Cybermen episode and was completely shocked to see that they looked nothing alike and didn't say delete!! And every time one of them said something that had to do with an emotion I was yelling at the TV.

Date: 2014-11-30 09:21 am (UTC)Hmm, do you mean the Fourth Doctor Cyberman episode, Revenge of the Cybermen, which is the worst Cybermen story, or the Fifth Doctor one, Earthshock, which is a really good one? (Because SFX in DW are pretty universally awful, so it would be hard to tell from just that. The Revenge Cybermen are the ones who have emotions and don't know what they actually are, so I'm guessing maybe that one?) They never said "delete" till New Who, because New Who Cybermen come from an alternate universe - we haven't seen any of our universe's proper Cybermen in New Who yet. Which might be as well - they're a bit fragile, they're allergic to gold, radiations and nail varnish remover and probably some other things.

Date: 2014-11-30 09:33 am (UTC)I was talking about both sets. I'm just so used to the new ones, who are uniform and don't understand emotions, that whenever I encounter the older ones they are hard to watch. I have certain expectations, like it not being so obvious that they are men in suits, that it makes the old ones hard to watch. I didn't know that the old ones weren't from the alternate universe though. I assumed they all came from the same place so it may make them easier to watch in the future.

Date: 2014-11-30 12:40 pm (UTC)The Revenge lot are pretty bad at the emotions they shouldn't have (Robert Holmes was amazing, but he did not get Cybermen), but I think the 80s ones are better (like the Cyber leader who doesn't understand Five's speech about small, beautiful things) - but then, those are my first Cybermen so I have issues with New Who's version instead. Mind, I think, to be honest, most of the time the idea of the Cybermen is better than how they're actually done in the show, old & new, but I do love the creepiness of that idea.
Half of Terminus is a bit random! No wonder you were confused. Still, I suppose a channel showing all of DW is something to be grateful for, even if they skip bits inexplicably. :-)

Date: 2014-11-30 01:41 pm (UTC)The Old Who Cybermen didn't say "Delete", because at the time Who went into hiatus, the most cutting-edge home computers ran on the just-released platform . . . MS-DOS. Windows 1.0 had been released in 1985. (And that's as of the end of Old Who. Just think what it was like at the beginning!) You get the picture? "Delete" wasn't in common parlance. ;)
