I posted that graphic a while ago. It only took a few minutes once I finally settled on a pic to use in it. Now I am beginning this bizarre Doctor Who thing which is more of an essay on time travel and paradox logic than a fic, except that it's all prose, mostly. I don't even know what this is. But it beats not writing.
At this point, I am trying to decide if Martha or Donna would ask better questions. Probably Donna, but then I have to be able to write Donna, and her voice is hard. But I guess I'll worry about that in editing.
Interesting! So you're writing this as a conversation? I think both Martha and Donna would be good candidates for asking the questions. If your muse is telling you Donna, go with it!
And yes, writing beats not writing every time. : )
I think it's more like I'm writing it as a demonstration, only I'm not bothering to clearly separate essay and example, and also yes, I'm writing it as a conversation. Except when I'm not.
This may not end up making any kind of sense. At all.
That attitude is why a good ficcish essay-type thing on the subject is so desperately needed. :P
(Doctor Who uses several different conflicting systems of time travel, often at the same time, usually described in passing with phrases like "fixed point" which themselves are used inconsistently. It's not time travel itself that doesn't make sense.)
Well, if you can explain "Turn Left" so that it makes sense, I'd be grateful -- and then if you can also explain "End of Time," I'd assume you must be a Time Lord in disguise!
I'll admit that I don't get RL time travel either, though. Einstein's time dilation thing confuses me.
The secret to time travel is, it's generally accepted, to just ignore Einstein completely because he tends to say things like "you can't do that" and "you can't do that, either".
I think. That's definitely the rule for inter-stellar space travel, anyway.
Turn Left and The End of Time were both large collections of plot holes strung together by bits of drama (Turn Left), melodrama (The End of Time), and cameo appearances by Billie Piper. But if there are specific parts you want me to fanwank an explanation for, I'd be happy to give it a try.

THAT'S IT!!!!!! Yes, it all makes sense now! (And LOL.) :D
But really, they're both much too complicated (EoT in a bad way) for me to just respond by explaining the entire thing. I don't know which parts confused you. Besides, like, "the ones written by RTD." And they're likely the same ones that confused me.

I love you for that. And I haven't even seen either episode yet.
I'm not succeeding in staying away from this comm when I'm supposed to be getting other stuff done. This is not a complaint, merely an observation.
My ficlet has a start -- the prompt, the beginning of a concept, and 50 words so far. I'm not quite sure where I'm going with it yet, but I'm looking forward to finding out.
Straggling in from a long round of errands in the city, glad to be home and finally get a chance to grab up my notes and choose which one to pick away at for a while before it gets too late here. :-)
Thanks! So far I think all I've accomplished is the online equivalent of straightening papers and sharpening pencils... I've cleaned up the tags in my online archives and brushed up the final chapter of a story (Ramona and the Blue Box - a Fourth Doctor crossover with Beverly Cleary's Ramona books) - finally got it posted and done with so I can mentally move on to the next one.
Ah poo... need to remember pointy brackets for LJ. Someday I may pony up some money for a paid acct. here just so I can edit my comments. :-P It's a bit like realizing you're dragging a piece of toilet paper on your shoe after you've already walked through the room.

So since you're stuck here, are you going to write?
