I have catalogued half of the rest of my books and am now going to go sell a bunch and buy a few.

...it still counts as cutting down on the book collection if the number goes down overall, right...?

When you sell a bunch of books and buy a few, you end up with a smaller collection that's more intensely concentrated Awesomeness. What's not to love?

Part of my own process of moving 4000 miles was weeding my collection. I actually had to take some books to the recycle station. That was sad. But I also threw several old problematic (aka racist/sexist/homophobic) paperbacks into the paper recyle bin, and that was richly satisfying and not sad at all.
