Round 6 Hour 33
Mar. 21st, 2010 01:00 amStill writing? How's it going?
I've managed to get a start on my next scene, after it had spent enough time sulking in the corner.

. . . and I have the usual addiction to feedback, aka oxygen.
When this is completed, I'll have written three novels, two novellas, one short story, and a bunch of drabbles. I tend to write very tight to canon -- no adopted daughters, no settling down with the Perfect Woman, thank you. I love writing fic that's "New Adventures" -- as you say, lots of action and derring-do. And MacGyverisms. And whumpage.
One of the novellas, "Revision", is set immediately after the series ended -- my take on the first leg of the road trip, so that's essentially a mini-sequel as well. "Reverb" is a more ambitious attempt to envision the character adapting to the current world, with all the fancy tech, while still being essentially the same person. The title is partly based on the idea of the past and present influencing each other, and is partly a cheap pun on the fact that "MacGyver" is also a verb now.
I've become very fond of the novel form; it gives me time to work up a sophisticated storyline and give the characters room to stretch, which is nice. I do have to watch myself like a hawk to keep my writing from sprawling; action-adventure has to keep moving, after all.

That's the short story -- a nice quick read, and it'll give you an idea of my style. Not to mention my sense of humour.
About the last thing I ever expected in life was that I'd end up writing action-adventure. But damn, it's fun!!
