I've written 443 words of book reviews for 50books_poc need to do a wee bit more and then I'm done, but I'm falling asleep so I'll have to finish in the morning.
The sources I've used for my current WIP include two excellent novels, written by Peruvians, set in Peru. One is a particularly good YA novel. Based on what I just read on that comm, it might be a great place to post reviews of them. Thanks!
Now that's cool. Is there some resource for finding books/authors like that by country, or do you just have to Google authors from Peru and go from there?
Trying to remember how I found them . . . as I recall, I did a search in the online catalogue at my local library, and I think a search on Amazon as well. I was looking for resources for what it was like living in Peru during and immediately after the Shining Path era. Novels can be terrific source material if used judiciously.
The YA novel, Useful Fools, is a coming-of-age novel . . . but it's coming of age in the slums of Lima when terrorism is one of the daily facts of life. It caught my attention partly because of a really negative review on LibraryThing: the kind of negative review that screams "good book, clueless reader". Once I'd gotten hold of the book and read it myself, I decided I needed to get some positive reviews of it out there. I haven't done so yet, and an added spur may well help.
Yay! Free of work at last! Of course, I still have to go home and eat before I start writing.
I'm partway through chapter 11 of the same novel-length work I was writing last round. If I can actually finish the chapter before the end of the weekend, I shall be ecstatic. It's doable: I probably have about another 1500 words or so of unwritten material, I know what's going to happen, and I even have some notes and sketchy bits already done.
However, I have one scene that's not assembling itself with the level of dramatic strength I need. I've already torn it apart and reassembled it once, and it got better, but it may have to go through the process at least once more.
This is a side-community for fic_rush, where we post our hourly posts during rounds. If you've wandered in here by accident, you'll want to go there instead.
If you're with fic_rush and have just shown up, look for most recent hourly post.
