Good morning! It's about 8 here, so I'm going to try to type up all the scribbles from late last night before I have to head out for church, my turn to sing so I have to go early... usually I don't mind that, today I'm going "but I want to write!" ;-)
And a good morning to you too! Feeling any better?
My story has taken a sharp left turn that necessitates research into Wiltshire geography and Arthurian legend. With any luck, the end result will be a coherent description of my alien race, which up till now has been rather along the lines of "insert aliens here, decide all details later".
Not much better. :\ I do have more drugs for it though. Thanks for asking.
I like how much research you're putting into this. There are too many pro authors whose finished stories still come off as "insert aliens here, decide all details later."
Writing has made me realize that I actually like research. A little too much, since it serves as such a nice distraction. But yeah, I agree - it comes through when a writer has actually researched something and not just arbitrarily made things up.
Let me know if I can help out -- I know nothing of Wiltshire geography other than the address of my good friend Mr. Google, but the Arthurian cycle is one of several mythologies that I know in almost embarrassing detail.
I need to know about the death/disappearance of Merlin - what's most commonly supposed to have happened to him, where he ended up, and whether any prophecies specify when/if he'll come back.
(The one book I've got handy doesn't give much detail beyond saying he was imprisoned inside an oak tree, and Google is much more helpful if one is looking for lots of different leads rather than trying to narrow things down...)
Ack. I've got plenty of information there and I'd be glad to help, but I have to run out to an appointment! The oak tree story is one of several variations.
