Greetings, writerly life-forms! I am your stunt mod for this hour. *cartwheels*

The writerly pasta is on the buffet table by the glowsticks - be sure not to confuse them! The ninja penguins currently have the alien fish population under control. We have blankies blankets and caffeinated drinks for those as wants 'em, and the singing of the muses (especially the Coffee Muse) is repelling the bonsai giraffes nicely from their insidious plot to rappel over the walls and into Fic_Rush.

Are we writing comfortably? Then let's continue! :D Or if not, let's begin!

Those hot, steamy, intimate moments with the espresso machine really are the best, aren't they?

In fact, I think it would be 'Sirrah', to convey the appropriate level of disapprobation. According to my presumably legitimate research. ;)

Usurpation FTW!

I haz espresso, and I've caught up on the 'Rush posts and started the laundry, and I'm eating homemade applesauce for breakfast.

And I got ambushed by Unexpected!Dialogue while I was making my espresso, and I actually got back to the computer and typed it up before it vanished, giving me a wordcount for the weekend month year of 300!

Naturally, it's not a scene from the WIP I'm hoping to resuscitate. Or from any other WIP. It appears to be from a completely different, previously unknown story. OTOH, it's Mac, and I've missed him, and it's words.

Yup. Stargate is good, but Mac is like coming home. Of course, I still have no clue what the hell the rest of the story is supposed to be. But hey, I have Word open!

Ah yes, simply 'taking' an arm, I had forgotten that version -- much more matter-of-fact.

Locking one's arm means stiffening up the muscles so the joint doesn't move -- if you're pushing someone away, or holding the door closed, or (for the legs) trying to stay upright when you're exhausted.

Interlocking arms would be, for example, when one person is trying to haul the other out of a bog, or pull them back off a cliff -- grabbing the other person's arm, stiffening the muscles, and locking the joints.

Entwining the arms is sensual. Usually one person entwines his/her arms around another person's neck, or possibly other body parts. There's an implication that the entwiner is active and the other person is passive, and possibly not welcoming. It's rarely used for men, at least in the US, because we have such screwed-up attitudes about gender and sex. /end soapbox mode

On the other hand, two people can lie on a bed with their legs entwined, or they can walk with their fingers entwined, and this is clearly mutual.

*g* Feel free to ask any time! I love this stuff. As long as you don't mind the occasional barbed comment on the rampant stupidity of my own culture.

to arms! two arms!

That's definitely walking arm in arm. You can also say that the people linked arms, or that person A linked his/her arm with person B.

It's the power and curse of English: we have so many lovely words, each with its own strengths and weaknesses. We have all these expressions, and yet there are still things for which there's no term. So sometimes, you're hunting for the perfect expression, and it's out there somewhere -- and sometimes it isn't. But you always have to hunt.
