Round 35, Hour -31
Nov. 22nd, 2012 12:00 pmGreetings, fic_rushers! I am a Mod. *adjusts mod hat*
Have you done any writing this hour? Are you eating writerly quiche? Are you battling recalcitrant spellcheck programs? *adds "spellcheck" to Firefox dictionary*
Your challenge for this next hour, should you choose to accept it, is to use the Libertador O'Higgins region of Chile in your fic! (It keeps popping up on my earthquake-tracker widget - yes, I have an earthquake-tracker desktop widget, what sort of a proto-geologist would I be without one? *g* - so I thought I would share the information that it exists. :D)

Date: 2012-11-22 05:07 pm (UTC)That's the awkward part about so many fandoms being sci-fi, fantasy, or reasonably location-bound, isn't it? Characters can't just go gallivanting off to Chile. Not that they show much tendency to do so anyway; even the Brigadier prefers Peru... ;-)

The Doctor examined the console as Jo stepped out of the TARDIS. "Hmm. Chile. The VI Libertado O'Higgins area, apparently. You'll like that, Jo. Of course, I met Bernardo once, but -"
Jo poked her head back in. "Very nice, Doctor, but this is Brighton."
"Brighton? Now, Jo -"
"Really, Doctor. I can see the pier and it's pretty grey and miserable if it's supposed to be Chile."
The Doctor directed an insulted look at the faulty console. "Jo, are you sure...?"
"Put it this way, Doctor," said Jo with a grin as she headed back out again, "I'm just going over there to buy an ice cream."

Or:
"Blake wants to go to Earth again. I thought about pointing out that it might be rather a suicidal move, but since presumably that's his objective -"
"He's looking for this missing scientist," Cally put in.
Jenna moved past Avon. "It's risky, but at least it's not near central Federation command this time. According to Orac, the man is hiding out in Chile."
"The VI Libertado O'Higgins region, to be precise," Orac said, the lights flashing inside its plastic casing. "Named after -"
"Yes, thank you," said Avon, cutting into the lecture by removing Orac's activation key.
"Well," Vila said, "Chile. I suppose at least it'll be warm there."
"But don't tell me," said Avon, "you have sensitive skin and sunburn easily?"
"How did you know?"
"Call it a hunch."

But not in my Yuletide fic. ;-)

Date: 2012-11-22 08:27 pm (UTC)B7 is like the British Star Trek, if ST was made on a budget of tuppence in the late 70s, and had been mashed up with 1984 and a Shakespearean Tragedy, the Federation was evil and everybody moaned a lot everytime they were asked to do something but wore fabulously glamrock outfits and sometimes the Michelin Man turned up.

Date: 2012-11-23 12:22 pm (UTC)If anything terrible happens before Sunday, it's all your fault. I suppose it's these new modly powers which will set you up above the gods, yes, and through these cross-bred Giraguins, you will have that power... Or something.

Date: 2012-11-22 05:53 pm (UTC)The writerly quiche has been eaten, the email inbox has been emptied and there have been no earthquakes or words as of yet. Though the wind sounds like it is performing a Shakespearean soliloquy.

Date: 2012-11-22 06:04 pm (UTC)Surely writing e-mails counts as words, if there was any writing along with the deleting. I've been mostly answering comments this past hour! ;-) And writing my next hour's post.
