Round 29, Hour 4
May. 25th, 2012 09:02 pmHow's it going out there, oh mighty fic-rushers!?
Writing, researching, "researching", procrastinating, or just generally enjoying life?
A question, just because I can *evil laugh*.
Is there a genre or a type of story that you love to write, but you hesitate to do so for whatever reason?
For example, I really like kidfic, but I hesitate to write it because it feels kinda cliche when I'm writing it, even if objectively it isn't? I read quite a bit of kidfic, and I love it, but when it comes to writing I always have that moment of self-censure.
How about you all? Things that you like to write but you feel that you shouldn't?

There should also be some weird mysticism and so on that may mitigate things (Not Actually Dead for Magical Realism Reasons) but still.

Date: 2012-05-26 03:24 am (UTC)As to genres I hesitate over - well, I'm trying to do a sort of post-apocalyptic urban fantasy right now and I'm dubious of my ability to do it well. I have trouble handling fictional magic: I love reading it when it's well-done, but my own brain is very, very rational, has to understand how everything works. So I wind up setting up all these really rigid rules and not leaving anything actually... magical. :P

This article always is what i think about then I think of magic systems: http://www.brandonsanderson.com/article/40/sandersons-first-law
