Also, I'm writing a scene where the character smokes, is there any slang words for a cigarette other than fag that are used?

Yay for new coffee and for words!

Well, one of my friends calls them "death sticks" and in general I've heard them just referred to as "a smoke" (like "would you like a smoke?" for being offered a cigarette).

It depends on which country and which era. 'Fag' is UK slang; Welfy's suggestions are US slang. If your characters are American, I can probably come up with another couple of slang terms.
