Hello, fic_rush!

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to make Laurie scared.

Also, to hunt giraffes.

This is my scariest icon, but it probably only works if you know The Brittas Empire. *fail*

Sorry.

Anyway, I must catch up with my flist and then depart LJ temporarily so that fictional words can be written instead of comments.

Pitry stared at the icon, petrified. To make matters worse, she had an uncomfortable feeling that she had heard the sound of tiny hooves behind her - and something had definitely eaten the leaves of the [unseasonal] hyacinth on the window sill earlier.

She managed to tear her gaze away from the horrifying image on the screen - Brittas/Laura icon, what was the internet coming to? - to search for the pestilent creature, when her pet weasel brushed up against her. It was looking suspiciously well-fed.

Pitry did some quick creative maths and just hoped it hadn't been anyone's pet bonsai giraffe, the sort that they loved and took home and called George, but judging by the way today was going and the inky marks around her weasel's mouth, she couldn't help but feel that probably wasn't the case.

Still, it wasn't as if the weasel was going to talk...

(Pitry, don't say things like that. :lol:)

Nope, not scared by that icon. Just two people smooching like they'll never get the chance again. I don't know that show. Is it a show?

Okay... so how about drinking a glass of water upside down? That's what I always do to cure hiccups.

(I mean you sort of stick your head upside down and drink from the wrong end of the glass, so you can't breathe while you do it... It's hard to explain on the internet.)

:loL: Yes, I don't have many scary icons, but I tried... It's THe Brittas Empire, with a perfectly nice person smooching Mr Brittas, the most annoying man in the universe. (Except he's Chris Barrie, aka Rimmer from Red Dwarf, so... It could be worse. I could try harder for a Scary icon.)

I've used my most villainous one this time.

I am cured from the hiccups, which is good, because if I tried that hiccup cure it would surely send me further along on the current Meniere's attack (ear problem, vertigo,dizziness, lots of fun things like that).

I've heard of Red Dwarf. I don't know anything about what the show's about except I'm guessing it's a sci-fi one.

The potential shooter does look a bit wild around the eyes. I woudln't want to cross her.

Good! Glad the hiccups are gone, and noooo, you wouldn't want to try my cure, then!

Red Dwarf was a BBC sf comedy show from the late 1980s/1990s. (And, drat, I deleted my icons from it again.) It was pretty amazing. :-)

Yes, most people who cross her, end up dead, or mad, or something...

The premise of Red Dwarf is that a very large ship (the Red Dwarf) suffered a radiation accident that killed everyone on board, except for one man, Lister, who was in stasis at the time. A million years later, the radiation is gone, and the ship (having run straight out into outer space on autopilot all that time) wakes up the sole survivor. For company, he has the following:

Rimmer, a hologram of his dead roommate, the Most Annoying Guy in the Universe;

Cat, a strange creature that evolved from the ship's cat (which survived the radiation due to some handwavium);

Holly, the ship's computer, a floating head on a black background, which is more than a little demented after a million years on its own;

Kryten, a robot housekeeper, whom they pick up at the end of Season 2.

Lister himself is a Slob with a Good Heart.

This Merry Band of Misfits turns the ship around and starts on the million-year trip back to earth, exploring strange new worlds and getting on each other's nerves as they go. The series was brilliant, mostly due to very good writing and outstanding performances, although it outlived its inspirational spark by a couple of seasons (IMHO).

I dearly loved the show, and it's on my list of Shows to Get on DVD and Watch Again Soon.

My mission, this hour, is to read an academic paper on the death and life of punk... so far the best sentence is "Punk is, ironically, a subculture operating within parts of that established discourse, and yet it is also subculture partly dedicated to opposing what the discourse of subculture has become."

And then I need to find pictures of late 70s preppy clothes.

Now the thought of ever having to write a term paper again is scary.

Yeah, I have occasional thoughts about grad school but then I remember how much I hate making up sentences like that. But I am grateful that all kinds of papers are on the internet and not even all locked up in academic databases any more!

Haha, that would be a pretty amusing thing to run across in a paper!
