Fic Rush 48

I have just written approximately seventy words, mostly about light fixtures. This gives me hope that I have *some* writing mojo on board tonight!

Actually, 70 words on light fixtures sounds pretty impressive. I think I'd have trouble coming up with 10 words on light fixtures.

Oh my lord, well. To be fair, my sudden ability and desire to document the lighting situation in the latest venue of peril for our dynamic duo may e owed to the fact that we seem to be stripping out all the boring light fixtures in the house we bought last year and replacing them with LED light fixtures. The kind that have the capacity for colour changing by remote control. I hadn't really thought about how the household obsession with lighting was affecting my writing.

Whenever it gets installed by the Competent People of the household, I will have a modern chandelieresque number that has white halogen bulbs for the bright light, and colour-changeable LEDs for additional mood lighting. I'm sure warm purple lighting will be exactly what I need for writing purple prose.

Oooh, that sounds nifty! And congrats on incorporating all your new-found knowledge into fic! If I were to do that, my latest story would be 300 words on waiting for the furnace repair person to call me back. Somehow, I don't think that would be nearly as interesting to read, though.

Oh, it's fixed now. It was last week that it was broken. Fortunately, I own a space heater and some good sweaters. But no, it wasn't a lot of fun.

It's never fun when the heat goes out for any reason. Last time our heating system went out was last month when firefighters cut the power for two hours because our neighbor's house was on fire.

Wow. That's one situation where I'd let the people cutting off the power do anything they wanted to, though. I hope the fire didn't damage your house at all, and all of your neighbors are okay.

Me and my family are all right (although there were some hair - raising moments as our backyards/sheds are right next to each other and if the sheds had caught on fire...), and the neighbors got out safely. Their dogs died though; saddest part of the whole affair.

Ooh, Fic_Rush! I completely forgot about it - it's been a long week. :-)

I have an English paper to write on the geology of Middle-Earth, so that is what I will be doing, along with piles of other homework. But right now I am watching Ellery Queen.

Yes, I've been meaning to ask you, how do you write about the geology of Middle-Earth, anyway? Do you make assumptions based on physical features mentioned in the books, i.e. the existence of mithril in the Mines of Moria implies that there are also coal deposits lying around somewhere? Or do you just talk about what you know is there (forests, mountains, mines, Crack of Doom, etc.)?

I'm afraid I don't know too much about geology, so I would be fairly lost, but it does sound like an interesting topic.

Essentially I go "he says this and this [cites LOTR] in the description, and of the forms that we know rocks come in, that sounds like this one. [quotes from geology sources]"

So... more on the end of talking about what I know is there, but with some "we could probably make this assumption because". Like, um - "there are chalk downs noted in the Westfarthing of the Shire, the Barrow-downs might also be made of chalk [evidence goes here (I haven't done that bit of the reading yet)], but the Brandywine between them is notably brown; could be a peat-stream? [evidence for and against the Marish being a peat-boggy place]" The level of landscape-description he goes into is really helpful, although there are spots where I'm left muttering over the difference between granite and limestone... (see: Emyn Muil)

It's really a book-level topic were I to do it right, but I'm going to pick several features rather than all the features to talk about. ;-)

Editing is definitely useful. Words are easy; it's getting them in the right order that is hard.

Working hard to try and not be in pain but my thigh hurts. At least the rest of me isn't in pain any more :D

Eeep. I don't want to pry, but if you'd care to share what happened to cause so many parts of your body to be in pain, feel free. Assuming it would help to talk about it. Which it may not.

I got attacked by three dogs while walking two days ago. They bit my knee on one leg, my thigh on the other and I fell onto the road so my whole body hurts. I don't mind sharing, I'm not too sure how I feel about the whole thing.

Ack! OMG, that's horrible! I hate dog owners who do not control their dogs. It's not safe for people who happen to be walking by, and it's not safe for the dogs, either.

I hope you recover quickly! Do you have to get rabies shots, or were the dogs vaccinated at least?

I know. It's so stupid. It was Australia Day so the owners were out the front drinking with the dogs, they just weren't on leads. And then the owner had the nerve to tell me he was going to go and bash the dog like that would make it all better.

I didn't get any shots cause my last tetanus show was a couple of years ago and it was still current. God I hope the thing didn't have rabies and I hope it was vaccinated but since one them wasn't registered I'm not so sure if they were.

I don't know about Australia, but I believe that here in the U.S., the police would be requiring the owners to provide proof of vaccination. You should definitely check into it, as rabies is not something you want to fool around with, and getting shots early is the best defense. On the other hand, I can see how tracking that information down would be the last thing you'd want to deal with right now. Is there anyone in your doctor's office who can help you pursue it?

This. They'd go ahead and give you the rabies vaccine/shots while they were waiting for that proof. That's what they nearly had to do with me when I got bit before the owner of the poodle that bit me produced the vaccination records (I was eight at the time.).

Maybe you can contact your doctor and they can contact animal control to see if the dogs have their vaccinations.

Well hopefully I should hear from the police soon as the ambulance drivers said they were obligated to call them. Otherwise I'll talk to the doctor about it on Tuesday. God I hope I don't have rabies, that was the last thing I was thinking of at the hospital.

I'm sure it's unlikely that you do, but they may want to give you shots just to be safe. But don't worry about it until you can do something constructive about it. This weekend is for staying as pain-free as possible, and waving glowsticks at penguins and alien fish. *hugs*

Um, I have just accomplished my first goal for the round! I made a tag and tagged the posts. That was not actually one of my original goals, but hey, at least I've already accomplished it!

My next goal is to read the posts so far and then to try to remember what my goals are. Either that or sleep.
