I don't have a vast knowledge of the steampunk genre. What I *do* have, however, is a long familiarity with nineteenth century literature (from Austen to Dickens and Hardy), and literature set during the 19th century (eg Anne Perry's William Monk novels), plus familiarity with Big Finish's Victorian era-Doctor Who spin-off, Jago & Litefoot', and a rampageous plot bunny who takes ideas into his head and can't be stopped.
I also have a whole bunch of characters living in my head (apparently) who were just waiting to be unleashed. I *swear* I don't make these folks up!
