Round 19, Hour 24

Unfortunately, my body seems to think it's still in London.

But fic_rush can conquer! It's Hour 24, which means we are almost at the halfway point. What will happen this hour? Will there be words written? Showers taken? Penguins overthrown? Mongooses mongoosing? Will I manage to stay awake until Hour 25? Stay tuned to find out!

It's 9am here, though I'm logged in as one of my RP characters at the moment :D It's isdon_isgood9, fun, I've already replied to 2 different RP posts but I haven't started writing yet. Hopefully I'll start soon :D

I had a dream last night that a fic author wanted us (er... me and people, possibly lj people) to help her develop her bad guys by having us role play them, with little chibi versions of them as our user-icons. I was thinking that was brilliant and I should do that with my villains who are currently a bit cardboard. But then I woke up and decided that I didn't really want to do that.

That actually does sound like a brilliant idea. Maybe you can try mentally putting your villains into different situations and see what they do? That would be sort of similar without going through a whole role-playing scenario.

Yes, I think that might help. I generally know what people's broader motivations are, but then when they get in the sandbox, why do they make each choice? And with original characters, it's not like one can say, "oh, no, that would be out of character for her!" One has to let the character's actions illustrate who they are.

Right now I have a military dude who's been doing moderately bad things for moderately silly reasons (money, boredom, essential lack of integrity.) But what he's going to do when faced with doing Really Bad Things is up in the air! Writing! It's so exciting!

Writing really is a very interesting process. It's like it taps into a part of your brain that you don't normally access when you're consciously thinking about stuff. How is it possible to surprise yourself when you write? And yet it happens all the time.

We've stopped doing things to the new house for the moment and I am sat on the only comfortable surface currently in the building, an air mattress. I am going to tackle a really messy passage in the story I'm revising, and see if I have the energy to progress the other end of it that is still being written.
