“You’ll get the receipt via email,” Character 2 reminds them impatiently. “You’re right,” Character 1 says after a moment, and they take the stairs to the parking lot. “The mansion is only an hour away,” Character 2 says. The mansion, where all will be revealed. Yet, does Character 1 really want this mystery to end?
If they go straight to the mansion, go to page 43. If Character 1 decides to “take a short cut”, go to page 85.
The desk clerk looks up with a bored expression, and then walks off. Character 1 drums their fingers on the desk while they wait impatiently. They really have to get on the road. The explosion takes out the whole lobby.
How could Character 2 betray them after all the things they’d done last night, Character 1 thinks as they sob. Just when they’d started feeling…something for them. Blinded by their tears, Character 1 runs into the parking lot. They never see the speeding car.
“Just what do you think you’re doing?” Character 1 says hotly. “Don’t you know who this is?” “Of course I do,” Character 2 says. “He’s my brother.” “I know you don’t trust me,” Character X says. “But I really am here to help you.”
If Character 1 believes them, go to page 40. If Character 1 does not believe them, go to page 64.
