Speaking of which, Kink Bingo amnesty must be ending soon. I should whip something up (heh,heh) for that.
And while I'm being kinky, I started a fic two years ago when Dreamwidth entered open beta. Welll, they're out of beta now and it would be super special to actually return to that story and try to finish it.

Date: 2011-05-07 12:37 am (UTC)As should be obvious from the that number BBs are very addictive. I love them because they challenge you to keep writing even when you feel like you want to rip your hair out. And you will feel like ripping your hair out.
One of the hard parts is picking a good BigBang to join. There are certain BBs I join on principle, since I've had good experiences with the mods and support communities. And there are Big Bangs that I probably won't sign up for again for various reasons.
The HET_BigBang looks like it will be a good BigBang with lots of support. I've also had good experiences with the mod. Prompt replies, and very understanding. It seems like a good 'first' Big Bang. But if you're seriously unsure, the mod does encourage people to contact her with questions before they sign up. If you do decide to sign up I can point you towards some good support communities.

I guess I'm just freaking out a bit because of it because I have no idea how it works and the FAQs is great but it doesn't really give an insight into what's going to happen during the time.

Date: 2011-05-07 01:30 am (UTC)You loose inspiration, your story doesn't end up being as long as necessary, RL gets in the way. Things happen and from what I can see there is no penalty for dropping out of the Het BB.
The only thing you have to be aware of, is that if you're dropping out it is good manners to do so before you are assigned an artist, if at all possible.
Depending on what fandom you want to write, I'd be glad to alpha for you, and help you through your first BB experience. I'm not signing up for this round because my current het fandom, isn't really het (Part of why I love the series is because the main female character is gender-queer but that does make it hard to find an appropriate BigBang). But I'd still be glad to help out.
