I made some revisions. Mostly making sure that things were consistent. Like pronouns, since one of my characters changed sex the moment I started thinking about who she was and what she was really up to, and she suddenly became quite the sneaky fox of a Soviet scientist instead of quite the avuncular bumbler of a Soviet scientist.

No, it really wouldn't. Dull characters are harder to write (at least they are for me). They're so dull.

You have a point; it's actually much easier to write characters who have something... some oomph. Something I can connect to emotionally.
