Ahh, much better, how's everyone doing? I'm learning that crochet involves a surprising amount of math, so I'm switching to words. How's the word crop this Hour?
I think something's wrong with our internet and I think it's upstream of us, but can't prove that by the provider's website.
searching the provider's website for "status" gets me three results. one is about firewalls and clearly not useful to me. one is about careers and clearly not useful to me. the third is troubleshooting one's cable modem, which could potentially be useful to me (though you will notice it does not address the question of "is the problem outside this building") except that the most recent operating system it provides troubleshooting instructions for is Windows XP.
WINDOWS XP.
…I do my fic drafting in locked Dreamwidth entries. having working internet is important for being able to save my progress. having intermittently working internet is worse in some ways than having no internet at all.
Microsoft doesn't want anybody to be using XP, that's for sure! Microsoft doesn't even want anybody to be using anything as old as Windows 7!
Nah, they just haven't updated that page since 2012. And it was out of date then, like, that page legit has troubleshooting instructions for Windows 95. And Windows Vista came out in…I do not know, but I know I bought a Vista desktop while I was living in Pittsburgh and a month later it was an Ubuntu desktop, and Pittsburgh means 2007–08 vicinity, so Vista came out no later than 2008.
Ah, that's too bad. The fact that the first line of contact is a robot makes mine easier (at least for me). I'm guessing no convenient social media pages either? :/ Annoying when they're so bad at the internet when they provide internet.
This is a side-community for fic_rush, where we post our hourly posts during rounds. If you've wandered in here by accident, you'll want to go there instead.
If you're with fic_rush and have just shown up, look for most recent hourly post.
