Well, I drafted 3,000 words today, bringing me up to 7,000 during the fic rush so far! So at that I'm gonna call it a night and head to bed. I'm gonna try to get an earlier start tomorrow than I did today. :)

behold, for the two characters in the key background relationship that is getting going in this novel-length (as opposed to being canonically dating as of before the story opens) now begin interacting whole chapters earlier!

this was seriously sentence-level tweaks. like. have one of them agree aloud in ch 6 with something the other said, and suddenly their first direct interaction (in these personas) is a chapter and a half earlier, and they are now demonstrably inclined to like each other because this is not the sort of thing either is used to being agreed with on.

fiddle with a couple paragraphs later in the chapter, and maybe the blonde is just being a good hostess (since the brunette is the one member of the party whose dietary restrictions somebody else wasn't sure of and therefore couldn't apprise the blonde of, but now the reader sees the brunette's gotten a little special attention dinner-wise, and not in the "she's lactose-intolerant, let's plan this menu to not involve milk" way, either.

so now when the brunette says something helpful to the blonde and then blushes when the blonde smiles, there is lead-up that's neither "both of them putting their skill sets to work for their fearless leader and object of mutual adoration" nor "in their other personas, they kinda despise each other".

I am pleased with myself.
