What ho, rushers! (Maybe imagine that one in the plummy tones of a 30's BBC announcer rather than my rather more prosaic accent?) What news from the word mines? I hear tales of breakfast and research, and myself have mostly done laundry, what other plans do we have for this writing day?

Oooh rhubarb, I love rhubarb. What are you making with the rhubarb? Pie? Crumble? Muffins? Or just a tasty topping for your breakfast cereal?

Breakfast! I love stewed rhubarb on its own. I don't bake, mostly because I'm intolerant of most cereal grains, can only have small amounts. Breakfast is usually stewed or fresh fruit.

I've got gooseberries in the freezer that I was planning on doing something similar with...now I'm tempted...

You should, gooseberries are fabulous! I still have one surviving bush, just hoping I'll get fruit this year. If I ever get the garden rescued from weeds, brambles, and overgrown shrubs I might get some new gooseberry bushes.

I <3 gooseberries, I don't have a bush of my own - I live in a flat so my garden is actually window boxes - but my mum does, if she gets a glut of them I get a couple of bags from her. (When I was a kid we always used to have to pick them green because the moment they turned pink the birds went 'whooosh' and they were gone, but where they live now she can net them properly and let them go pink before picking - much less sugar required when cooking!) Good luck taming your garden - brambles can be pretty tasty if you get them tamed enough that they don't attack you every five minutes!

Lucky that you can get them from your mum, I don't think growing them in window boxes would work ;)

My variety is green anyway, the berries just get paler as they ripen, but I still have to pick them before the birds start in on them. My solitary bush isn't in a good place for netting, what with all the brambles.

Sadly blackberries don't agree with me, my neighbour usually has them. The bushes have got a solid foothold since the millennium. Between my own health issues and caring for my late mum I didn't have much time for gardening and everything went to pot. The last two or three years I've started making some progress with clearing stuff and cutting shrubs back. I need to get more sunlight into the garden. Then maybe I can grow stuff again.

I've made breakfast! After that, I plan to venture out for groceries. :) Hmmmm, if I go to one of the nearer shops, I might have time for some writing between that and the evening DND session...
