Oh thank goodness. I was starting to wonder if any other mods were up -- I don't write very well when I'm the mod on the current post, because I get distracted answering all the comments. ;-)
I'm also probably heading to bed pretty soon, unless my writing partner on this collaboration throws me another curveball -- we were up all night Wednesday because we kept giving each other good lines to riff off of. ^_^ We would both prefer not to pull another all-nighter, but it is 1am here...
No words yet but that's because my brain is being weird and putting up a wall between my thoughts and my fingers. Like, I'm trying to write and I know what I'm doing in the story but ugh, how do I actually write the words.?
Whoops, posted this in the previous post but looks like I got there too late? Anyway, repost:
So! *waves awkwardly* Hello there! New face here - only just found out about this comm through fandom calendar, and thought I'd try out this year! :) (Unfortunately not right now because it's election day here and I just came back from handing out how to votes for a few hours so I'm pretty tired but tomorrow!! Tomorrow I am DEFINITELY gonna add those words!!)
Anyway! I'm a longterm fandom gal, hung out a lot on LJ back in the day but now found mostly on tumblr at 22degreehalo and adhd-ahamilton! My current fandom, as it were, is historical RPF, specifically American Revolution, specifically Alexander Hamilton and John Laurens! And so my current fic is a Laurens-centric longfic that I started in NaNo (my first time, and gosh it was fun!) and which has turned out even longer than I ever expected... Now with 57k down, I'm up to the final third, where the plot gets vaguer and the heavy relationship stuff goes down and ahhh this was the least-specific part of my initial draft so I've found it difficult to get up momentum again... BUT I think I've finally gotten together a good plan, so all I need is to buckle down tomorrow!
So, check me out at AO3 as FallacyFallacy where I have a bunch of different fandom stuff, including some history shortfic, and you can see what I've written (ranted?) about my current fic under the tag the-fic-of-theseus on my history tumblr, so named because literally every single scene in the fic has been changed in some way from its initial form :P
Nice to meet y'all, I hope to enjoy my time here! :)
Originally the idea with the glowsticks was that you write for as long as it glows, but at this point we mostly use them for welcoming new people, making random objects like post anchors and usurpation crowns, and distracting the ninja penguins. ...which is to say, we've accumulated a bunch of running jokes over the past ten years(!), but nobody will judge you for not knowing them, and anyone who remembers their origins will happily explain if asked. (Some of the jokes, nobody remembers how they started. Unless somebody does and hasn't reminded me lately. XD)
Oh cool, that makes a lot of sense! :) And yeah, there's clearly a lot of jokes I'm not familiar with lol, but I'm happy to figure them out as I go - though hearing the backstory is really fascinating! :)
Welcome! I'm totally in awe of your long-ficcy-ness, I always lose the plot (literally and literally) after about 10k ;)
I checked out your AO3, I'm not familiar with most of your fandoms but I just read and really enjoyed your Margaery/Sansa fic, it's really hard to pull off second person so well and for more than a thousand words so major kudos <3
Nice to meet you! n.n And haha, that's the funny thing - this fic was totally SUPPOSED to be just 10 or 15k... and then I actually looked into the history that I was writing about, and it turned out that it was implausible that these guys would meet up so late, and unlikely that they'd be friends again so quickly, so I kept having to change things and it got longer and longer, and then even in NaNo I was convinced it'd only be 40k at the end, but then the plot took so much time longer than I expected... so only at the very end of NaNo around the 50k mark did I get these guys in Philadelphia in 1780 and friends, which is where I basically started the fic in the initial plotbunny n.n;; Also it's been like a year and a half since then and I've had to change the entire fic over multiple times to make it more history compatible... so I suppose 'awe' is a good reaction to this whole process, provided you're using it in the older, not entirely positive way :PP
And thanks!! I love to mess around with different writing styles and things and honestly that's still one of my favourite fic I've ever written, it was so different and fun and Sansa/Margaery is such a good ship to begin with that I'm still very pleased with it!! n.n
