I'm about ready to enjoy the fine feeling of my bed...but I have ideas for fic! Obscure fic that no one will read...but they're ideas! :D

Ohh, exercise, laundry, schlubbing about, corraling kiddos and getting some writing in as I can (between binge-watching shows that - as mentioned earlier- I should really not be watching).

Dude..the crickets left placards in their seats. Said they'll be back for the next one, but it is too boring even for THEM. A record I must say. I'm almost stupidly proud of that, lol!!

OMG, the commentary was priceless! Jack was an ass...but seriously?? And Mac HATES HEIGHTS. He doesn't swear, drink or act like a pig. Honestly, he was so cute because he was so hands off with women most of the time (and non-smart ones seemed almost intimidating to him...what would they TALK about, after all??) This show sounds like someone kinda remembers MacGyver, but not really and hey! Let's just put his name on it and make it a show about what WE want! YEAH. They totally woulda done the show like a thousand other shows, in the 80s and now if they'd've had the ability like this was two thousand years ago and the concepts of sex, sexism, racism and blatant asshattery weren't 'so new' *meh*

At least with the original, they TRIED to be mindful of stereotypes and horrid tropes. They just had a few fails here and there. Happens to the best of us. This NEW show (with the stolen name) sounds like some dude's 80's fantasy of what HE would have been if HE were MacGyver. LAME.

I'll probably watch. Just so I can make a scathing remark on my ElJay about asshattery and how THAT hasn't changed since the 80s. Gods.

Basically, the New Guy (Campy dubbed him "McGuyver") has a throwaway comment, as he's jumping onto the landing gear of a plane that's taking off, about how yeah, he's afraid of heights. Not that he acts accordingly -- by which I mean, it isn't the kind of thing we got with Mac, where you really understood that he "hated heights" (that is, had borderline acrophobia) but made himself deal with it, and this was a human process that we got to glimpse and share. One of the specific things that made me fall for the show, from the beginning, was the amazing impact of those cracks in the outer shield that let the vulnerability peek through.

One of the "pet moments" I had in my very first fic was getting inside Mac's head when he went through an acrophobia episode.

McGuyver -- well, it's clearly not in his contract (and possibly not in his acting range) to do that kind of vulnerable glimpse. It's not something you're likely to find in a kid in his 20's, after all -- depth usually comes with age and experience. The hundredth time you slam your way past a barrier is different from the first ten or twenty. That's one of the many many things that made RDA's character someone so compelling. Bring me back to the whole WHY DA FUCK DO THEY THINK WE GIVE A SHIT ABOUT THESE DAMNED KIDS WHO LET THEM OUT WITHOUT AN ADULT

I enjoyed reading your tweets, and now I am glad I didn't watch! By the way, Rotten Tomatoes gives it a green splat from critics (22%).

True. There were a LOAD of complaints about him...from fans of the original and people who actually WEREN'T fans of the original. They all agree that there were certain elements that made the original show (and character) work perfectly...and they ditched those elements. Mac was young...for what he was doing. But he had experience with the military, he had lived for thirty years and some change. He was opposed to guns and violence. He was almost shy around women. He did not condone torture. He used his brains...not a weapon. And him and heights were not the best of friends.

Commenters were more than happy to sound off about this. Of course, you had your fans of the actor, but they were far outweighed by the objections.
