I have achieved BREAKFAST! *waves arms in the air like Matt Smith*

And I've decided what to write: I didn't post anything on ReadALLtheNewberys! (http://readallthenewberys.dreamwidth.org) last Monday, so I'm going to write my review for The Trumpeter of Krakow, figure out how to liveblog Millions of Cats (I love picture books but I'm so glad I'll shortly be hitting the era when the Caldecott Medal exists), and then flip a coin for whether to start Hitty: Her First Hundred Years (re-read) or Calico Bush (first-time read) next. :D

I got my notes typed up and tweaked a little and I know how much more I need to write now. Nemesis woke up though so didn't quite as much done. She's happily munching on a chew now so I might get some more done.

I have achieved consciousness! I also fed the cats and put their water fountain back together from the dishwasher. That took a bit out of me and I'm back up here in bed with the lappie.

I forgot to make coffee when I was downstairs. Nor take advil to stave off the stiffness from the kick-my-ass hockey clinic I was at last night. But! Writing! I am going to do some today :)

Yeah, we got them this one after my big kitty had urinary tract problems, to help encourage him to drink more water. They were dubious at first but they like it now :)

Oh, I'm doing a project to read all the winners and Honor Books (runner-ups) for the Newbery Medal - which is for excellence in American children's literature, I think it's parallel to the UK's Carnegie Medal? It was founded in 1922; I've gotten to about 1930 so far, reading chronologically.

They're all winners or runners-up/Honor Books for the Newbery Medal (http://www.ala.org/alsc/awardsgrants/bookmedia/newberymedal/newberymedal) - excellence in US children's literature, founded 1922. I'm trying to read the whole list, which currently has almost 400 books on it, of wildly varying quality; I'm getting to the 1930s. ReadALLtheNewberys! (http://readallthenewberys.dreamwidth.org) is where I post my liveblogs and reviews for the books.

Thank you! There is a certain amount of "why am I reading this, why would anyone read this" involved, especially in the early years of the award, but overall it's pretty fun and informative.

No, it doesn't seem to be. One of the requirements for eligibility is that a book must be published first in the U.S. (or concurrently in the US and UK, as The Graveyard Book was), and in the Wikipedia entry for the series it looks like at least the first book was published first in the UK? So that might be a partial explanation.
