Well! I have over 400 words of fic! Probably in the wrong POV (I am, as previously noted, experimenting with POVs - the result of the current experiment being that if I try to write in first person with a male protagonist it invariably sounds like that jerk Harry Dresden), but it is fic. I should write blindfolded more often; it keeps me from stopping and editing my stories out of existence 'fore they get wrote. ;P

Hmm. I was sure that song had more lines. I may have to go do net research to see whether I've missed some and can actually get alien fish and giraffes in. (Or a second verse...?) Now I have a Really Annoying Fic_Rush song and it's all your fault! :loL:

The original song has four lines, not three. (I first heard it as 'Scotland's Burning'.) I think you forgot the 'Fire! Fire! Fire! Fire!' line.

Although maybe yours is a different version, because aardvarks wouldn't fit like that - it goes (even if I get it in the wrong order again):

Scotland's burning? We usually only set fire to London over here, as a general rule. It likes a good fire at least once a century.

The version I learned had "Look out! Look out!" instead of "Fetch the engines, fetch the engines!" Hence the different scansion. I'm all in favour of your version if it means we get to keep "Fetch the aardvarks!"

I have no idea why it was Scotland instead of London. Presumably an example of American decadence. The 'Scotland' version, with 'Look out' instead of 'Fetch the engines', was popular in this country in the mid-19th century:

:lol: That's a great story in the link, thanks! I've no idea of the history of it, so it could have mutated through any number of forms; it's that kind of song that children pick up, although I know it from being forced to sing it by music teachers.
