Hi all!

I'm safely home again and a big thank you to [livejournal.com profile] lolmac for covering for me last hour.

Today was crazy at work. So how is everybody doing? Have you had success writing this last hour, or maybe success doing something else?

I just pieced together all my pieces and found I have nearly 3000 words of [livejournal.com profile] yuletide! And still full of holes so it's going to be even longer...

(my usual fic length is 900 words so 3000 words is long for me)

225 word commentfic written and posted. About 900 words since Hour 19. Not setting any speed records, just glad I feel well enough to write!

I just finished shaping 73 cookies, so success?

We've got to put two more batches in the oven. Then clean up. Then I can write. And I am totally having two of my characters bake cookies in a later scene.

Hahaha, so the cookie-baking was research?

Craaawling. Word by word by word.

Question for you guys, what kind of music do you like to listen to when writing?

Totally. Or, me being a crazy, bratty, pain to my mom is research :D The joys of kidfic :D

The nothing kind. I am amazed there are people in the world with enough brainpower to write and listen to music at the same time.

Lately I've been listening to Bon Iver when I write. Typically I listen to the same album or set of albums over and over for a few months when writing.

Before Bon Iver it was Snow Patrol's third album, and before that it was Mumford & Sons, before that was Christian Kane. I like things that are a little less rock and more quiet, but as long as I know it really really well (so it doesn't distract me) I'll write to most things. What I can't write to is the sound of voices or the tv or noises that are unpredictable.

Background music! If it's too loud it distracts too much of my poor brain.

Sometimes classical music is best for me, without pesky lyrics to, again, distract my poor brain. But as long as it's turned low, anything will work after a few minutes of getting accustomed to it.

When I'm really immersed in a story (writing or reading, either works) music will usually become a pleasant background noise for me, it's not listening listening with me, it's more of an aide to concentration...

Yes! Any sort of irregular/non-melodic noise is such a distraction. Which is why I'm asking, really. My family's at home, and the tv is running all day, so even cooped up out of the way I usually hear something, and Vienna Teng (my usual writing music) doesn't work for background noise anymore.

Hmmm, Bon Iver. Holocene is a fantastic song.

Yeah, that's my trouble with having my family around too. I have a pair of headphones that work pretty good.

My favorite Bon Iver song at the moment is Michicant though Creature Fear was my favorite for a long time.

Definitely background music to work with, nothing blasted at full volume. Classical sounds like an idea worth trying - I usually write to Vienna Teng, especially her piano pieces. Thanks. :)

Lucky you! I have those on my Christmas wishlist. XD

Excellent choices both, and I'm just finding that I need to listen to his latest album... so many songs that I missed. Calgary. <3

His entire self titled album is really fantastic. Yes Calgary and Towers is another one from that album I really enjoy.

Well, if there's peace and quiet available I listen to that. *g* Otherwise - I have a few long, repetitive, lyric-less pieces I like (there's a 15-minute version of "Turkey in the Straw" that's, er, saved my bacon a couple of times). I can't write to anything with words available.
