Round 20, Hour 45
Aug. 21st, 2011 11:01 pmNinja wolves have taken over the universe.
Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to write more fic in the 3 hours left (4?). Otherwise: PREPARE TO MEET YOUR DOOM!(O'Neill: Oh, please!)

Date: 2011-08-21 08:08 pm (UTC)And on that note I'm going to shower and poke around in my fridge for lunch. I think I'm done writing for today but I will be back to cheer everyone else on. Go,

Date: 2011-08-21 08:12 pm (UTC)I made a text icon (it had 7 words - my count for today therefore being 11 words on 2 icons).
But go, fic_rushers, go!
I'm off to contemplate adding sparkles to Sapphire and Silver (or not), and then probably to bed, but I may pop back briefly. Or not. (It's like a cliffhanger thingy).

Date: 2011-08-21 08:13 pm (UTC)There IS much rejoicing!
Also, ninja turtles.

Aw, I hope you don't dump your 1000 words, or you know, only edit them to greater genius. But translating a paper is even more impressive (to me; I could passably translate a few words of simple French, but anything else and I'd be lost).

Date: 2011-08-21 08:26 pm (UTC)Actually, I have this ongoing issue with iconing S&S caps, in that they come out (aside from the merely pretty ones) as a series of pics seeking entry into a crazy caption competition... and I can't think of witty captions. I mean, take this one:
Fic_rushers, text please? (Sorry, feel free to ignore/delete slightly OT posts, but anyway. Captions needed for my witless mind.)

Date: 2011-08-21 08:26 pm (UTC)I think there are now (halfway through Hour 45) 3.5 hours left.

Date: 2011-08-21 08:32 pm (UTC)And, yes you did before, you had a Steel one (not one of mine) - you must have shuffled it out or something.

Date: 2011-08-21 08:33 pm (UTC)I think the words will have to be dumped. It is their destiny. Maybe some will be salvaged... but I don't want to give them false hope.
(As for translating, I guess that's the benefit of living in a non-English speaking country! If we want to communicate with the world, we have to learn to properly navigate that evil language of yours :) I'm actually translating Hebrew to English so it's probably not as good as my English-to-Hebrew, but I think it's decent... it's just that the paper itself is so... well.)
Sparkles! Sparkles!

Date: 2011-08-21 08:41 pm (UTC)In the meantime, I just got an email requesting another work thing. But it doesn't have to be done right away, so I am ignoring it. Hopefully I will not put it off for two weeks like the thing I just finished. Naw, I would never do that, right?
I am now off to the bank and to get lunch. Then, it's on to the cover letter!!
One of these days, I'm going to have to go back to using fic_rush for writing fic. But in the meantime, it's very helpful for motivating me to do other things that I have to do!

Date: 2011-08-22 07:10 am (UTC)saving the file as a .jpeg
So, save it as an .png (or a high quality .jpeg) and instant end of fuzziness forever, except when you mess up the icon! :-)
Someone had to point that out to me after I was going mad about the fuzziness of every icon I made.
If it's the cap, you can do things with using layers, especially soft light, but I find that with older video caps that can just lose you detail.
But save as .png, that's the main anti-fuzziness technique!
(And, aw, look my icon! :-D I can still never quite get over people actually using my icons.)

Date: 2011-08-22 07:18 am (UTC)(Also, re fuzziness - what do you save your icons as because a simnple anti-fuzziness act is to save them as .png files, not .jpegs. And careful sharpening, of course. I was ready to give up icon-making until someone responded to my fuzziness rant with that advice. Excuse me if that was too obvious to mention. If it is other things,

Date: 2011-08-22 12:19 pm (UTC)The fuzziness issue hits me harder because most of what I do are LOLs, and I use a standardised height of 450 pixels for the final product -- much larger than icon size. If the source file is poor quality, all the sharpening in the world won't save it at that size, although you can do enough sharpening to get a good icon.
I actually spend more time doing careful blurring to reduce pixelation.

Date: 2011-08-22 12:21 pm (UTC)And I apologise for the waffle. All I meant to say was, I iconed sparkly Spike for you. (Or for today's 'naart' anyway). Over at my LJ now. ;-)
And you are v v clever, don't try to deny it, just get an extra big hat and wear it with pride.

Date: 2011-08-22 12:24 pm (UTC)And, yeah, all the lines/pizellation and stuff you get with old screencaps - I know! Again, with icons, a lot gets lost in resizing, so you can get away with more, but a little bit a gaussian blur does go a long way with some of them! :-)
