Round 20, Hour 22

The ninja winged pigs are circling, waiting for their chance to land. Meanwhile, the ninja kangaroos and ninja koalas are fighting over who gets to be the ruling ninja animal of the hour.

We've had a lot of activity, and some of it has even involved writing! How are things this hour?

I have no words to report this hour.

I tidied up my meta to get a list of all the parts that still needed to be written and, in the process, have realized it all sucks. So now I'm listlessly scrolling up and down and muttering, "So much suck! This is too embarrassing to even consider posting as my Big Bang. I'm going to end up defaulting. Suck, suck, suck!"

I know it's a temporary phase and I'm being dramatically emo. Ignore me and I'll just take a little break and watch the pretty ninja pigs soaring up in the blue sky.

I got two more chapters reviewed and revised and re-posted, and a sudden slew of ideas for future LOLMacs, which I jotted down in the appropriate file.

Oh, do I know that feeling: you examine your fic closely after you've been working on it for a long time, and suddenly it sucks. I'm glad you already know that it's a false feeling, and you'll feel more positive again after you've taken a break.

True story: I once completely stopped working on a fic because I came to the conclusion that it sucked. Months later, I re-read it and decided it was actually good. I finished it, and now it's become my most popular fic ever.

I look through my WIP folder occasionally and wonder why I ever stopped writing on certain fics. Sometimes I even finish them up. Distance lends perspective. How awesome that a story you almost didn't finish turned out to be your most popular. :-D

Oh, no! I didn't know you've been getting dizzy spells. Is there anything you can do to make yourself feel better? Lie down for a bit?

*g* Don't worry, I'm not deleting. I've been through this before and it never lasts. I just need a quiet little pity party before I pick myself up and start working on it again. It's never as hideously awful or amazingly awesome as I think in my more excitable moments. ;-)

But I really do appreciate your advice and support. I'm getting calmer just responding.

That's the awesome thing about keeping a WIP folder -- fics never, ever have to die. Even if a story did end up going down in flames, I sometimes find that I can resurrect ideas from it and put them elsewhere. Distance does indeed lend perspective. :D

Yeah, I've been a bit ill lately. :( I hope it'll just go away if I sleep enough, which probably means I need to say goodnight to fic_rush and go to sleep!

Except for the "stopped working / finished it" - me too! XD I had a Doctor Who crackfic once that I kept nearly deleting because I found it so embarrassingly horrible. At least once, I actually had it in the recycle bin with my mouse on the Delete button before I relented. Finally I decided to post it under f-lock and see if anyone would tell me it was horrible or just stare in shocked silence.

That would be "One More Time"... the only story I've ever had Calufraxed. ;D Crazy old world.

That's why I never delete abandoned fics. Even the stuff I *know* is terrible (and has stood the test of time to prove its terribleness) I keep, because it helps me to look at them once in awhile and review why they don't work. Besides, the files don't take up much space, and you never know when you can get inspiration from something, even something embarrassingly bad.

By the way, the fic that I almost didn't finish because I thought it sucked? It was "The Spotter's Guide to the Doctor," which has also made it to Calufrax. Sometimes it's really hard to judge the worth of our own stories.

(FYI, for anyone else reading this who might be curious, Calufrax is a rec community for Doctor Who fanfic.)
