Oooh I am also knitting! I do not have the brain for words post work today, so I'm watching Stanley Tucci eat and cook Italian food and making lots of cables...
Acht, headaches always muck with concentration. Good luck with those chapters.
I'm knitting a rye light sock by tin can knits, a fairly plan one to practise using my new trio needles. They're like dpns but with a bendy cable in the middle. Quite enjoying them so far.
They're so fun! (Except when I made stupid mistakes and have to unravel them because half the pattern is off by two stitches and now the pattern doesn't match. :'()
They aren't too difficult. I like this pattern, it's part of their free collection to help people learn to knit new things. It breaks down all the different parts of the socks and gives helpful tips. I'd recommend giving it a look if you ever feel like trying socks.
Oh that’s so frustrating I hate when that happens. Especially as I usually don’t notice until it’s either too late or need to frog six inches of knitting. :(
I cheated, I just undid the actual cable and worked my way back up with two cable needles and a crochet hook. It worked; I was only a few rows past the wrong twist.
Ah that is clever tho. I can manage to fix a row or two back (just changing a knit to a purl or visa versa) but that’s as far as I can go. Any further/more complicated and I have to rip it back.
It's an acquired skill. I couldn't have done it when I was first getting into knitting cables, but now I know what I'm doing, as long as it's not too far back I can usually figure it out. Doesn't work for lace patterns though.
That’s fair, I only mastered the re-knitting/re-purling stitches on the row below during lock down when I was doing a big fair isle project in the round that was a menace to rip back normally I’d have held off until I got to my knitting bee where one of the more experienced knitters can take lace patterns back like that could either show me or fix it for me! It’s been a useful skill to acquire, so I should really have a go at learning your cable fixing technique too!
Wow! I am in awe of anyone who can do that with lace patterns! I've been knitting for 40 years and I don't even try unless the mistake is only on the previous pattern row.
It's a bit of a juggling act, and it help to have cable needles that have a bent bit in the middle because they stay put better, but it's a skill worth mastering.
